The Council on American-Islamic Relations, New Jersey office (CAIR-NJ) is looking for a qualified, passionate, and talented individual to fill the Communications Coordinator position. We are seeking individuals interested in working on the front lines of the fight for the civil rights of American Muslims. Join a small and intimate but quickly growing team that works to defend civil rights on behalf of the American Muslim community, promote civic engagement, strengthen the image of Islam and Muslims in the media, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

This position aims to strengthen American Muslim civil rights and civic engagement, while also improving the image of Islam and American Muslims in the media
Communications Coordinator
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist communications team in developing and implementing a communications strategy designed to further company objectives
- Post social media content, increase social media presence/following, monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns
- Manage the CAIR-NJ website with current content
- Write a variety of different content to support communications and marketing efforts, including community updates, fundraising emails and letters
- Prepare press releases, organize news conferences, and coordinate media interviews
- Proactively work with journalists and influencers for strategic coverage of CAIR-NJ work, Islam and American Muslims
- Assist in creating periodic CAIR-NJ publications such as the annual report and other educational materials
- Providing digital and print marketing support for CAIR-NJ programs and events
- Managing graphic design, photography, layout, video editing and other multimedia needs and databases
- Monitoring local and national news for coverage of Islam, Muslims, hate crimes, national security, civic engagement, and other relevant issues
- Ensuring all communications adhere to CAIR’s core values, mission and branding guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
- All CAIR staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, fundraising, and other office tasks.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism or equivalent, relevant work experience
- Excellent written and oral communication and managerial skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SquareSpace, EveryAction, Canva, Adobe PhotoShop, and all major social media platforms
- Experience with video production and editing

Writing and analytical skills:
- Superb writing skills and the ability to compile all necessary information for decision-making, reporting and presentations.

- Personal qualities including energy, intelligence, diplomacy, sound practical judgement, the ability to work independently with limited supervision; the ability to work effectively in a busy office; strong organization skills; self-starter; and the interpersonal skills to work effectively in partnership with staff, local, regional, national, and international advocates and legislators.
- Ideal candidates must be able to demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
- Travel is required
Compensation:
- Annual Salary of $45,000 – $60,000, depending on experience.
- Fully paid Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey for employee and dependents
- 3% retirement matching contribution
- 10 paid holidays, 10 days paid vacation, 5 sick days, and 5 personal days
