CAIR NJ IS ACCEPTING Winter/spring 2023 interns

CAIR-NJ offers internships to students on a biannual basis. Internship positions include Editorial Writing, Graphic Design, Government Affairs, and Youth Development. Interns work closely with all staff and are trained to adopt a multitude of skills throughout their tenure. They also develop professional skills and become privy to the operations of civic advocacy, non-profit, and public service. 


CAIR-NJ takes on a wide array of projects and activities that seek to empower and cater to the needs of the Muslim community. Interns — whether at the graduate level or undergraduate — receive hands-on experience and take leads on various projects including CAIR-NJ’s annual Muslim Day of Advocacy and Muslim Youth Leadership Intensive.  


Legal Research/Editorial Writing 

  • Works mainly with the Communications Department. 
  • Interns will be expected to pitch and co-author op-eds as well as conduct editorial research. 

Graphic Design 

  • Works mainly with the Communications Department. 
  • Intern will be expected to produce graphics for social platforms on a fast turnaround.
  • Intern may contribute toward content plan for social media platforms and analytics.

Government Affairs 

  • Works mainly with the Government Affairs Department. 
  • Intern will be expected to support staff and take lead on aspects involving Muslim Day of Advocacy and research relevant policy issues.  

Programs/Youth Development 

  • Works mainly with the Outreach and Programs Departments. 
  • Intern will be expected to support staff and take lead on aspects involving the Muslim Youth Leadership Initiative as well as other programs throughout the course of their internship.  

Grant Management

  • Works mainly with Operations and Programs departments.
  • Intern will be expected to support staff and take lead on aspects involving grant scouting and writing application components, and contribute toward grant reporting.
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing at an accredited U.S. university. 
  • Detail-oriented and creative; self-starter and can work under minimum supervision.  
  • Enthusiastic, optimistic, focused, and motivated. 
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. 
  • Friendly and outgoing (comfortable speaking in public). 
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow through on various on-going and newly assigned tasks. 
  • Experience interacting with the Muslim community. 
  • Must be passionate about community engagement. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • All graphic design interns must have experience working with Canva or demonstrate a willingness to learn.

  • Work samples 

*All applicants must submit a writing sample. This may be a drafted legal document, press release, blog post, or writing assignment. Maximum length: 3 pages. 

*All Graphic Design applicants must also submit an original sample of graphic design work. This could be a school flyer or assignment. 


All interns are paid a stipend. Interns may also receive academic credit or community service hours if arrangements are made between CAIR-NJ and the intern’s university. Interns are responsible for researching requirements and coordinating this effort. 


CAIR-NJ’s internship program is open throughout the year, and we accept applications on a rolling basis. Each session runs between the following months (with flexibility): 

Winter/Spring: January – June  

Summer/Fall: July – December  

Due to the high volume of applicants, we recommend applying as soon as possible.  


Internships are part-time and hybrid. Interns are expected to be in the office 1-2 days a week, depending on the sessions and scheduling. All interns must maintain a 14-hour workweek between the hours of 9am-5pm.
