Job Title: Operations Coordinator 

Schedule Type: Full-time (Non-Exempt) 

Reports to: Operations Manager 

Location: Newark, NJ (hybrid) 

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, New Jersey office (CAIR-NJ) is looking for a qualified, passionate, and talented individual to fill the Operations Coordinator position. Join our growing team that works to defend civil rights on behalf of the American Muslim community, promote civic engagement, strengthen the image of Islam and Muslims in the media, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding. 

Position summary: 
The Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and executing day-to-day and recurring tasks, as well as helping oversee various platforms and databases to support the CAIR-NJ team. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring operational efficiency and supporting CAIR-NJ’s mission. This position requires a high level of agency, discretion, and care for detail. You may be presented with a problem and need to find a solution to it for the work of other departments to continue more effectively. 


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and objectives, lead projects upon request, and work effectively with others internally to produce positive results. 
  • Database administration. 
  • Bookkeeping & Financial Support. 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive operational policies and procedures to optimize efficiency across all organizational departments. 
  • Identify and efficiently utilize internal resources for maximum impact. 
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators, providing strategic recommendations for continuous improvement. 
  • Maintain and organize official records and documents 
  • Implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at improving overall organizational performance. 
  • Miscellaneous on-going front-office administrative tasks such as monitoring incoming phone calls and mail, file maintenance, assisting with correspondence and mailings, greeting guests, and problem-solving. 
  • Support the ongoing development of policies, procedures, systems, and organizational infrastructure. 



  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in a relevant field (Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration/Affairs, or MIS) 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a strategic mindset. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant business tools. 
  • A data-loving, Excel pro, who loves owning & managing a database. 
  • A strong desire to continually improve and undertake new challenges. 
  • A strong sense of accountability with high ethical standards.  
  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities. 
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and provide follow-up as requested or needed. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with a database software or CRM. 
  • Experience working with Muslim groups or a nonprofit. 
  • Customer service experience.

  • Ability to engage positively with vendors, donors, and assess on your feet for cold-calls

  • Above average ability to compile necessary information for decision-making, reporting and presentations, and troubleshooting problems.

  • Personal qualities including energy, intelligence, diplomacy, sound practical judgement, the ability to work independently with limited supervision; the ability to work effectively in a busy office; strong organization skills; self-starter; and the interpersonal skills to work effectively in partnership with staff, local, regional, national, and international advocates and legislators.   
  • Ideal candidates must be able to demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.  
  • Travel is required 
  • Any other duties as required. 



  • Compensation in the range of $45,000-$55,000, commensurate with education, skills and experience 
  • Fully paid healthcare for employee
